I’m in the middle of watching the National Geographic documentary on North American wildlife. I had my fingers poised over the keyboard, ready to write about animal facts or maybe a lesson in geography-appropriate animal names for kids. And then Bella (one of my girls) asked me an inquiry Which animals begin in the letter Z? That’s the moment I became stumped. It took me more than an hour to figure out five animals. Then I realized that I had to conduct some research before I could write the blog entry.
Do you say Zebra? I say Zebu. Do you say, Zebra Finch? I say Zebra Shark. Do you say Zebrafish? I’m talking about Zebras, Zebras everywhere. However, more than 20 species begin with the letter Z, and each has distinct characteristics to be aware of.

Zebra
The horses are designed for speed and agility to survive within Sub-Saharan Africa. They can travel up to 40 miles per hour. They feature white and black stripes.
Fun Fact: Two Zebras will have the exact stripe pattern.
Zebra Finch
Zebra finches are not over four inches. Males have stripes of white and black tails and vibrant coats.
They can live forever in monogamy, but there are incidents of infidelity.

Zebrafish
Zebrafish are among the most frequently used models for developmental and genetic research. Zebrafish are among the few fish to have been sent into space. Zebrafish hearts can recover after injury.
Zebra Shark
Barbels are tiny sensory organs that sit on their snouts. They help locate their prey. They are not aggressive towards humans; their primary predators are sharks of larger sizes and humans.
Zebu
These animals are among the most ancient cattle breeds globally and originate from Asia. Zebus are the only breed of cattle that are found within tropical forests. The big hump can quickly identify them on their shoulders, and the long flail of skin on their chests.
Zebra Finch
The Zebra finch is a diminutive songbird (a formal part of the finches with unique looks) found in the South Pacific region. Atop a tree or log, a male emits a particular song made by him attract a potential partner.
Zebra Pleco

The most notable characteristics are the stripes that resemble zebras that cover the body. It’s a unique appearance when compared with other fish that are in the aquarium. Zebra pleco is a small species of freshwater catfish with lavish stripes and distinguished by a gentle personality.
Zapata Wren
Scientists are considering the Zapata Wren, also known as its scientific name Herminia cereverai, which means endangered species.
The bird is indigenous to the Zapata swamp of the western part of Cuba within these freshwater marshes of sawgrass. Fewer than 2 000 of the tiny brown birds are flying all over.
Bird enthusiasts recognize the Zapata bird by its loud song alternating between whistled notes and various percussive clicking and buzzing.
You can recognize the Zapata Wren by its tiny wings that are rounded, its extensive, broad, and round tail, and its bill that is black and yellow.
Zebra Duiker
Although it isn’t as well-known as the horse-like ungulate, The zebra duiker has the same striped appearance. The deer-like brown and tan animal is distinguished by black or dark horizontal stripes of brown.
The Zebra’s duiker is among the most striking coats that any animal can have. Its color is a mild gold or reddish-brown with twelve to sixteen dark brown or black stripes.
The zebra-duiker is native to The West African rainforests, with more people living in Liberia. Destruction and disruption of forests threaten the zebra duiker’s habitat.
As well as prey on leopards on the West African coast, the Zebra duiker’s population is estimated to be around 15,000.
Zebra duikers are males and females. Reproduce all year round. Females hide their newborns in thick foliage during the first few weeks following the birth. They visit the infants often throughout the day to feed them and other meals.
Zorilla
They look like Skunks. They can be found all over Africa in areas of rocky terrain and deserts, forests, grassland, woodland, and deserts.
